This is the 58th year of the celebration of Kwanzaa.
It was created by Professor Dr. Maulana Ron Karenga, in 1966, as a celebration of African-American culture.
Dr. Karenga based Kwanzaa on the harvest festivals celebrated by many tribe communities on the African continent.
The name Kwanzaa comes from the Kiswahili phrase matunda ya kwanza, which means "first fruit.”
